The Alps in the summer are as, if not more, inspring than in the winter. Lauterbrunnen is a valley famed for its waterfalls, and is well placed close to the famous Eiger, Jungfrau and Monch mountain trio.

Your rail pass, which is included in the price of the holiday, will take you to places such as Wengen, Grindelwald, Murren, Interlaken and Kleine Scheidegg. It's easy to access the whole region using the trains, cable cars and other lifts which leaves you to enjoy the activitys on offer. Our main focus is on walking in different areas, making the most of the rail pass to get us up high, then exploring further beyond the tourist attractions.

Other than walking, there are loads of other things to do in the area including: visiting waterfalls, going to the Jungfraujoch, the highest trainline and observatory in the alps, mountain biking, via ferrata and travelling the lakes on a paddle steamer service. This is an area to visit like no other.

If you think there may be people at your church/work who may be interested in this holiday please ask us to send you a poster.

Accommodation

We stay in a traditional, 200 year old wooden chalet which is also a family home and farm! We also use this Chalet in the ski season and find it a cosy and friendly place to stay. There are plenty of toilets, adequate showers, some sunny balconies and a large dining/living room. Rooms are for 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5, with washbasins and mostly single beds. The house is clean, warm and rustic.

Fellowship

This holiday will include a time of Bible teaching and worship each evening. Most evenings we will lay on some sort of entertainment. You will be asked to help our cook for one day with cooking and washing up. This can be fun and will not curtail your walking time.

Walking

The area offers a wide range of walks of differing levels of exertion. We offer a number of options each day including  guided walks on 5 of the days. Other days people can group together and explore the area without an 'official' leader. There are also many other activity options. Don't forget that a 6 day rail pass (for train, bus, cable car & boat) is included in the price and will take you to places such as Wengen, Murren, Grindlewald, Interlaken, Schynige Platte and Kleine Schidegg.

Stay in a mountain hut

We'll have the option later on in the week to do a two day trip staying in a mountian hut. There are a number of potential huts in the area, weather and group depending. This is an amazing opportunity to stay in the high mountains. One of our favourites over the last few years has been the Schmadri Hut where we have seen lots of ibex.

Via Ferrata

Over the years we have experimented with the local via ferrata routes and have a couple of favourites. We have thoroughly enjoyed the experience of slightly harder climbs while being protected by the fixed cables and a climbing harness. If you are interested in this, let us know and we can bring along all the equipment.

Mountain biking

There are lots of biking routes which we haven't yet tried and it is possible to hire bikes from a local shop, use the lift pass to travel up the mountain and find a suitable route to try.
