| The Chiltern Hills - Saturday walks |
|
The idea is to give people a chance to meet up on a monthly basis. The plan is to offer this on the second Saturday of each month. It will normally be a morning walk, followed by apub lunch.Sometimes, for those who can spare more time, there will be an afternoon "add on".The walking will not be arduous, maybe the odd hilly bit, but it's really a social opportunity. Each month we will post up a meeting place and time. This will always be a pub and a map grid reference. Alternatively meet at Gold Hill Baptist Church,SL99DG. Be there on time as we leave at 9.10 to meet the others at the designated pub. There's NO charge for this, but please tell us in advance if you are coming. If you're really lazy or busy, just meet us for lunch!!! We've arranged these walks by linking with the Gold Hill Walking group, led by Gay & Dave Beattie. They know the walks, wild life and pubsvery well and organise excellent routes. Gay is an expert on flowers of the Chilterns! There will be other folk there linked to Gold Hill Church, others who simply join this group for the walks and some of you, with links to GHH's. Dave and Gay are loyal supporters of our Swiss holidays, so it's a natural addition,to utilise their walking expertise in the UK. March, details:-Our next walk is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 13 March 2010. It will be a 5.5-mile circular walk in the vicinity of Lane End and Frieth and – as a special highlight – there are no stiles!! Yay – unless, of course, any have been built in the 3 or 4 months since we did the recce ... Meet either at 09:10 at Gold Hill BC for a prompt departure in convoy or at 09:55 at The Grouse & Ale PH, High Street, Lane End (post code: HP14 3JG; OS grid reference [Explorer 171]: 808917). This is the route we will be taking from Chalfont St. Peter, but if you know a better one, feel free: Take the M40 west to the Handy Cross turn-off at High Wycombe. Follow signs for the A4010 (Aylesbury). At the first mini-roundabout, continue straight ahead along John Hall Way. At first proper roundabout go straight ahead, and after about 300 yards at next roundabout, turn left into Cressex Road. Follow this road back over the M40; eventually it becomes Clay Lane. At T-junction, turn right on to the B482, and follow this into Lane End. As you go uphill into Lane End, The Grouse & Ale PH is on your right just before the village pond. If you are patronising the pub for a drink and/or food after the walk, use the car park at side and rear. Any queries, call Dave & Gay Beattie on 01753-888707.
