The Chiltern Hills - Saturday walks

We want to give people a chance to meet up on the 2nd Saturday of each month. It is normally a morning walk, followed by a pub lunch. Sometimes, for those who can spare more time, there will be an afternoon "add on". The walking is not arduous, maybe the odd hilly bit, but it's really an opportunity for excercise with Christian fellowship.

Each month we will post up a meeting place and time. This will always be a pub and a map grid reference. Alternatively meet at Gold Hill Baptist Church,SL9 9DG. Be there on time as we leave at 9.10 to meet the others at the pub.

There's NO charge for this, but please tell us in advance if you are coming. If you're really lazy or busy, just meet us for lunch!!!

We've arranged these walks by linking with the Gold Hill Walking group.  This is led by Gay & Dave Beattie, who are loyal supporters of our Swiss holidays, so it's a natural addition, to utilise their walking expertise in the UK.  They know the walks, wild life and pubs very well and organise excellent routes. Gay is an expert on flowers of the Chilterns! There will be other folk there linked to Gold Hill Church, others who simply join this group for the walks and some of you, with links to GHH's.

September details:-

Meet GH at 9.10am  OR  Jolly Farmer PH Cookham Dean SL6 9PD at 9.55am, for a walk with woods and river views.

Here's our route from Chalfont St. Peter, but if you know a better one or are coming from another direction, see you there:

Take the A40 through Beaconsfield Old Town and straight on to Holtspur. Turn left on the B4440 and go down the hill to Wooburn Green.  At the green, turn left on to the A4094 towards Bourne End.  Just before you come into the centre of Bourne End, turn left again, staying on the A4094, signposted to Cookham.  Fairly soon after you have crossed the River Thames (single-lane bridge controlled by traffic lights) turn right in Cookham village on to the B4447, sign-posted Cookham Dean. Continue straight ahead across two mini-roundabouts (the road becomes Station Hill) and the railway line and follow Lower Road into open country.  Turn left soon after the 40 mph sign into Hills Lane. This eventually becomes Church Road and The Jolly Farmer PH is on the right at the top of the hill, opposite the parish church.  If you are patronising the pub after the walk, please use the pub car park.

It might be helpful for you to take a look at the menu beforehand to speed up the decision-making process: www.jollyfarmercookhamdean.co.uk/10478.html   As usual, we will have a printed menu ready for you to pre-order food before we start walking.
