We have led UK based walking holidays since 1988. We have run ski holidays to Switzerland since 1989. This holiday combines our experience in both these areas and follows the success of previous Swiss Walking Holidays, which we have run since 1996. VenueLauterbrunnen is a valley famed for its waterfalls, giving good access to the whole mountain area below the Eiger, Jungfrau and Monch. Your rail pass will take you to places such as Wengen, Grindelwald, Murren, Interlaken and Kleine Scheidegg. AccommodationWe stay in a traditional wooden chalet (200 years old), which is a family home and farm! We also use this Chalet in the ski season and find it a cosy and friendly place to stay. There are plenty of toilets, adequate showers, some sunny balconies and a large dining/living room. Rooms are for 1, 2, 3 & 4, with washbasins and mostly single beds. The house is clean, warm and rustic. For those with no experience of the Swiss lifestyle it will seem more hostel-like in style, e.g. lacking armchairs! FellowshipThis holiday will include a time of Bible teaching and Worship each evening. Most evenings we will lay on some sort of entertainment. You will be asked to help our cook for one day with cooking, washing up and cleaning. This can be fun and will NOT curtail your walking. TravelWhilst not high on the list of selling points, coach travel is a great way to get to know each other and only takes a little longer. We travel through the night and the coach has a toilet. From Calais the journey takes 12 hours with 2 meal stops. We should reach Lauterbrunnen by 3pm Saturday. This will leave 7 full days in the resort. We depart on Saturday evening. WalkingThe area offers a wide range of walks of differing levels of exertion. There are also many tourist (non walking) options. We offer a number of options each day, enabling people to group together and explore the area without an 'official' leader. We will also offer a 'guided' walk on 5 of the days. We are returning to the Lake District, which offers a variety of walks in beautiful surroundings. We choose to self cater, to help keep the costs low and as part of the fun, helping our cook for one day with cooking, washing up and cleaning, this will NOT curtail your walking. We look forward to repeating the success of previous holidays. Venue
AccommodationThe centre is designed for groups and is comfortable, but not a hotel. The bedrooms are dormitory style with a maximum of four to a room. However, we can also offer twin and triple rooms and en-suite facilities, for a small surcharge. The Manor has a lounge, dining room, kitchen, drying room, and ample toilets and showers. We think you will feel very much at home here. WalkingWe intend to organise two or three levels/paces of walking each day. Nevertheless, you are free to do as you please, either doing other things or just resting! For the non-walkers, or those taking a rest day, there are many interesting things to do in the District. |
